Hugh Hamilton 2018 The Rascal Shiraz (McLaren Vale)

This wine checks the South Aussie Shiraz boxes. It's plush and fruity, offering plush plum and currant fruit and an underbelly of vanilla, pepper and some savory spice. A wine that's medium to full in weight, the succulent fruit carries through on the palate, gripped by savory tannins. There's freshness, in spite of its suppleness. Christina Pickard
