Hungry Hawk 2019 Rock Ridge Carmenere (San Diego County)

Editors' Choice

From a vineyard in Valley Center, this is a solid grape variety for the warm region, carrying ample minerality to balance ripe fruit. Fresh aromas of strawberry, red plum and crushed rock lead to a palate full of scorched earth, darker red fruit and black peppercorn. Tannins linger long on the finish. Matt Kettmann
