Hyland 2018 Founders' Selection Pinot Noir (McMinnville)

A very limited barrel select reserve, this gets an extra dollop of new oak (40%) during 10 months in barrel. Though it lacks the tight specificity of the single-clone bottles, it comprehensively represents the whole estate in a single wine. A mix of red berries, barrel toast, some light stem flavors and a dusting of coffee grounds, it's a substantial, well-structured wine that drinks well already but should add further details with aging. Drink now and through the rest of the decade. Paul Gregutt
