Iris Vineyards 2016 Areté Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)

This reserve-level cuvée from the estate vineyard has a somewhat muffled mix of bruised cherry fruit, orange peel, earth and compost. It's not so much out of balance as slightly out of focus. It saw one-quarter new French oak, which puts a touch of milk chocolate on the finish. Paul Gregutt
