Isenhower Cellars 1999 Merlot (Columbia Valley (WA))

Plump black cherry fruit stands out, buttressed with firm tannins and flavors of tar, toast, smoke and coffee. There is plenty of oak, with an appealing hint of bitterness. The fruit is classic Washington Merlot, pure and powerful rather than soft and pretty. Paul Gregutt
