84pointsJC Cellars 2004 A La Cave Syrah (California)

Of the winery's current crop of five Syrahs, this is the next most expensive, but it's hard to tell why. Possibly because most of the grapes come from Napa Valley, they paid more for fruit. But that means nothing. The wine is tannic and has a glyceriney sweetness to the blackberry and cherry fruit that's almost syrupy. Doesn't seem like an ager.
