Jekel 1999 Winemaker's Collection Pinot Noir (Monterey)

Opens with classic aromas of strawberries and smoke, beefsteak tomatoes, crushed hard spices, and vanilla-infused spices suggesting sweetness, although it's a dry wine. The mouthfeel is silky, with red berry flavors uplifted by spicy acids. It's not especially complex, but it's a pretty wine, and easy to drink. —S.H.
