Jip Jip Rocks 2017 Shiraz (Padthaway)

This wine is very reductive at the moment, overlaid by sweaty onion and menthol notes. Red and black fruit, licorice and peppery spice lurk beneath. The palate is on the thin and astringent side, with drying, woody tannins, but there's a nice spice here as well. Best head for the 2018 vintage, which fares better. Christina Pickard
