José Maria da Fonseca 2017 J de José de Sousa Red (Alentejo)

With grapes foot trodden in open lagars and then aged in old amphorae, the wine is densely textured and richly complex. It blends Grand Noir (itself created by crossing two undistinguished grapes Petit Bouschet and Aramon) with Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional. The result is a rich wine, layered with now mature juicy black fruits and generous tannins. Drink now. Roger Voss
