Jules Taylor 2018 OTQ Single Vineyard Chardonnay (Marlborough)

This style of high solids Chardonnay, which aims via winemaking technique to produce struck match and salty reductive and barrel characters, is the latest trend Down Under, but it's easy to go too far with it, and unfortunately in this case, it has. Intense aromas of burnt popcorn, flint and toast blanket the nose, while the citrus fruit hides in the corner. The texture on the palate is lovely, but it's overpowered by toasted oak flavors, and the fruit gets lost. Christina Pickard
