Kaena 2016 Hapa Red (Santa Ynez Valley)

This is a very rich kitchen-sink blend of 24% Syrah, 22% Grenache, 22% Merlot, 11% Mourvèdre, 11% Tempranillo, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot, starting with aromas of blackberry jam, black-plum juice, caramel and cola. There's a blast of acid at the tip of the sip and a firm tannic structure, which envelops the cola, fudge, caramel and dark-fig flavors. Matt Kettmann
