Kangarilla Road 2018 Shiraz (McLaren Vale)

Yields were down but quality was up in the 2018 vintage, and this wine demonstrates this beautifully. It's expressive and perfumed with notes of Satsuma plum and raspberry preserves underpinned by more floral, spice and licorice characters. The tannins play nicely beside the acidity. Fruit is fresh yet supple, supported by secondary flavors that add complexity. There's an energy to this wine that can be hard to find in other Shiraz from the Vale. It would make an intriguing food pairing. Drink now–2030. Christina Pickard
