A Saperavi from Queenland is unusual. A Saperavi from Queensland that spends 211 days on skins in clay amphorae is downright bonkers. Stylistically divisive, to say the least, this opaque wine is aromatic in the funkiest of senses, with dense aromatics like ripe plum, blackberry and blueberry, vineyard floor, mint, tree sap, stalks and black licorice. The palate is powerful with bucketloads of acidity, sappy tannins and a funkalicious finish. Pair with equally rustic, starchy foods like Eastern European-style dumplings. Christina Pickard
