La Puerta 2018 Reserva Malbec (Famatina Valley)

Blueberry, cassis, cardamom and wild herbs are not your standard aromas for Argentine Malbec, which makes sense given that this comes from the Famatina Valley in interior La Rioja. A tight palate is slightly tannic and hot. Tastes of spice and pepper go with more common plum and berry notes. Oak spice stands out on a finish alongside hints of lavender and cardamom. Drink through 2023. Michael Schachner
