Layer Cake 2019 Shiraz (South Australia)

This shows little sense of place or variety, but it's a tasty drop nonetheless, especially for the price. The nose is spicy and fruity, offering up enticing aromas of fresh cherry, plum, bay leaf, thyme and ground pepper. The palate is on the thin, astringent side but with just enough texture and tannin structure to keep the fruit in balance. Christina Pickard
