Longboard 1999 Syrah (Russian River Valley)

A very fine, young wine that would be a dead ringer for a good Northern Rhône red except for the rather soft acids. Brilliant fruit straddes the borderline between ripe blackberry fruit and drier pepper, sage and tobacco. Upfront tannins pack a punch. Best to let it rest through 2003. A brand to watch.
