MacPhail 2011 The Flyer Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley)

There's a lot of zippy acidity and even some firm tannins in this vibrant young Pinot. The cherries, pomegranates and cola punch right through, like a fist through paper. Its wonderfully dry and light in texture, with balanced alcohol. While it shows plenty of new oak, the wood doesn't dominate, as it did in 2010. Nice now, and it should age for eight or so years.
