84pointsMAN Vintners 2005 Pinotage (Coastal Region)

Pinotage can be a notoriously edgy grape to handle and South Africa's biggest challenge has been in learning how to properly cultivate it, and how to create a wine that is true to the varietal but pleasing to international palates. This Pinotage, with its assertive cherry and spice flavors and smooth tannins, is a step in the right direction. It's approachable, enjoyable, and appetizing. There's still a touch of the dry, spicy Pinotage character, but the wine is generally friendly. Susan Kostrzewa
