Mazzocco 2004 Stone Ranch Zinfandel (Alexander Valley)

The Stone Ranch Zins I've had over the years have generally been very good, but this is the best in many years. Probably the warm vintage was responsible. It coaxed fabulously rich flavors from the 80-year-old vines, from chocolate, blueberry pie and blackberry jam to espresso, sweet leather and cinnamon. The wine is soft, dry and warming, a perfect elaboration of ripe Alexander Valley Zin.
