Meyer-Fonné 2016 Kaefferkopf Grand Cru Pinot Gris (Alsace)

A gentle hue of russet pear peel on the nose starts to unfold on the palate. The juiciness and the purity of ripe pear flesh become apparent against a background that owes as much to phenolic texture as to concentrated freshness. These elements are well placed to counter the alcoholic warmth. This is rather powerful but also very well balanced with a dry and sustained finish. Lovely now but with the stuffing to evolve. Drink until 2028. Anne Krebiehl MW
