This well-balanced Hudson Valley Merlot opens with aromas of fleshy plum and black cherry, framed by soft spice and mint chocolate with an herbal edge and a sweet, charred oak. There's a sappy line of tannins on the medium- to full-figured palate that supports the plump cherry fruit. The sweet oak is ever-present but doesn't dominate. This could make for a tasty barbecue tipple. Christina Pickard
