This elegant Shiraz, from thoughtful artisanal producers Bernice Ong and Julian Forwood, is from two very different McLaren Vale vineyards. The nose evokes sun-ripened strawberry and rhubarb, violets and fennel, with a whisper of something more earthy and medicinal. Things get more serious on the palate. While the plump fruit and power of this warm-climate region shows: it retains an elegance and linearity. Tannins are fine, taut and chalky, acidity is lively, and a toasted sesame-spice note lingers on the finish. Drink now, with decanter at hand until around 2028 Christina Pickard

What Is Blind Tasting?

All tastings reported in the Buying Guide are performed blind. Typically, products are tasted in peer-group flights of from 5-8 samples. Reviewers may know general information about a flight to provide context—vintage, variety or appellation—but never the producer or retail price of any given selection. When possible, products considered flawed or uncustomary are retasted.
