Mitolo 2015 G.A.M. Shiraz (McLaren Vale)

The nose on this full-bodied wine leads with aromas of dusty old library books, coffee and dried herbs, which sit beside plump currant and plum fruit. The palate is richer and plusher than the nose suggests, but is reined in by muscular tannins. There's a fair amount of oak that rears up particularly on the finish, and the tannins are young and forceful, but give this another few years in the bottle and everything should start to settle down. Drink 2021–2029. Christina Pickard
