Mohua 2018 Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough)

This Sauvignon is a little reductive and oniony at first but it's also highly perfumed and floral, with lime leaf and blossoms alongside peach and lychee fruit. The palate, however, doesn't hold together as well; 2018 made for an even trickier vintage than 2017, thanks mainly to the presence of two ex-tropical cyclones right at harvest. It's slightly spritzy with bracing acidity and fruit that veers on the sour side, feeling a little overworked and underripe. Christina Pickard
