Montecillo 1996 Gran Reserva (Rioja)

Thinning, but with catchy aromas of leather, citrus peel, forest floor and cola. The palate offers sweeping dried fruits, mostly cassis and cherry. Meanwhile, the finish is tight and guarded by mature tannins and vital acidity. Interestingly, root beer and turnip show up at the very end. Michael Schachner
