Montecillo 2003 Reserva (Rioja)

Opens with marshmallow-like sweetness on the nose, but that changes to lean fruit and saline with time. The palate is solid and zesty, with standard Rioja-style plum, berry and dill flavors. It's a fresh but quiet wine, with a tight body, medium tannins and pretty good flavors. Well done but nothing unusual. Michael Schachner
