Montes 2003 Reserve Merlot (Colchagua Valley)

Ignore the “reserve” qualifier because that's what Montes calls all of its basic varietals. This one starts with strange horseradish and pickled-oak aromas, but time unveils better and cleaner cherry and plum fruit prior to a warm finish. Improves with time, but green throughout. Michael Schachner
