Montes 2017 Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon (Colchagua Valley)

On first pass, this warm-year Cab smells of plastic and lactic oak along with plum and berry fruits, and only after airing does this shed some of its overtly oaky character. A plump palate, with fresh acidity and dry tannins, holds toasty oak, vanilla, char and clove flavors along with base notes of black plum and berry fruit. A note of chocolate emerges on a slightly hot finish. Michael Schachner
