Moss Wood 2016 Wilyabrup Pinot Noir (Margaret River)

Margaret River is famed for its Cabernet blends, not for Pinot Noir. Perhaps there's good reason for that. While Moss Wood has been making Pinot for decades and gained many fans, this vintage is currently a little confused. There's a mustiness that could be mistaken for cork taint if it weren't under a screw cap, and anise, mint and medicinal notes that feel at odds with the red berry cordial, floral and Turkish delight aromas. It's better on the palate, however, which is medium in weight, silky and lifted by tangy fruit and bright acidity. Christina Pickard
