Mr. Riggs 2017 Generation Series D' Montepulciano (Adelaide)

It's rare to see Montepulciano on its own in South Australia, but it's a variety that seems happy there. This black cherry-hued version offers a deep well of aromas, from dark berry fruits to cumin and ground pepper; from black olive and sanguine notes to oak-derived spiciness. There's muscle on the palate in the form of leathery tannins, dark fruit, licorice and herbs. It's all tempered by crunchy acidity. Drink now with protein until 2029. Christina Pickard
