Mt. Monster 2016 Shiraz (Limestone Coast)

This is quite reductive at first, with sweaty, barnyard aromas dominating. With time in the glass and plenty of vigorous swirling, these notes do blow off, offering in their place ripe plum and cherry fruit, chocolate and a little black pepper. The palate is full and juicy with drying, slightly astringent tannins and a finish that feels a little sour fruited. Christina Pickard
