Narbona 2014 Luz de Luna Tannat (Uruguay)

A thick, opaque color is telling; this ultrarich and soupy Tannat smells of juniper, chocolate and black fruit. The palate is thick and syrupy, with a tartaric cut that seems more forced than natural. Flavors of coconut, vanilla and black fruit are warm and stewed, while the finish is similar. Think mid-aughts Argentinean Malbec for a reference point for this saturated heavyweight; drink now. Michael Schachner
