Neil Ellis 2013 Cape Winemakers Guild The Designate Red (Stellenbosch)

Winemaker: Warren Ellis. A spicy overlay leads the nose of this wine, with initial scents of cherry stems, bramble and cola spice. A blend of 70% Tempranillo and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, the palate is smooth and sultry, with plush tannins and ripe red-fruit flavors that finish with good intensity. There's not a ton of complexity here, but it's balanced and well made. Lauren Buzzeo
