Showing a nice bit of bottle age, this Pinot, from the Nelson region at the top of the South Island, offers up soft, attractive red-berry aromas along with dried flowers and savory herbal notes. After some time in glass, the fruit feels sweeter, almost confected. The body is light to medium, with a silky texture and a soft grip of tannins but there's a bitter note that's a little distracting and feeling of flatness. There's complexity too, however, and this should continue to age for five years or so. Christina Pickard
