Niebaum-Coppola 1999 Merlot (Rutherford)

A big, big wine. It's one of the darker wines out there, and the plummy, blackberry aromas suggest deeply ripe flavors. They're there, a solid core of massive fruit, although it's buried now under the weight of oak, alcohol and tannins. It's a young wine, and a bit awkward. May round out with age.
