The wine offers classic Mourvèdre aromas like blackberries, orange, bacon fat and freshly cracked black pepper. The fruit is muted on the palate, with a small amount of raspberry or boysenberry yearning to be free. Other flavors include basil and bittersweet dark chocolate. The tannins here are still grippy, so decanting or patience for another year or so is advised. Michael Alberty
