A little bit funky, especially at first, but if you give it time the early Syrah-based animal and sweat aromas give way to purer black fruit, bramble and plenty of oak-driven warmth. It has its merits such as color and mouthfeel, but all in all it doesn't quite get it rolling in exactly the right direction.
