Ojai 2019 Estate Red (Ventura County)

Editors' Choice

This is the red blend of two UC-Davis varieties that are resistant to Pierce's disease, which once decimated Adam Tolmach's home vineyard. Fresh aromas of black raspberry, cracked pepper, light cocoa and a slight hint of toast lead into an energetic palate of boysenberry, purple-flower and cake-batter flavors. It is reminiscent of a Syrah-Grenache blend. Matt Kettmann
