Oliver's Taranga Vineyards 2019 Mencía (McLaren Vale)

Corrina Wright and her team have showed the viability of a variety rarely seen outside its native northern Spain home. The nose is dense and earthy but quickly opens with time in glass to reveal bushels of dried herbs, spices, cherries and flowers. Silky, brambly fruit is wound by firm, textured tannins on the medium-bodied palate. It's a charming, restrained wine that balances New World sunshine with Old World charm. Christina Pickard
