Open Claim 2015 Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)

This well-funded new effort has released its first wines, from a vineyard planted in 2012. The wines show plenty of potential, though young vines cannot fully express all the secrets of the land in which they grow. Light berry flavors and highlights of toast and breakfast tea are in focus. Consulting winemaker Tony Rynders has used one new and one neutral barrel for this limited offering, keeping flavors in balance. Off to a good start, this is a winery to watch. Paul Gregutt
