Paddy Borthwick 2018 Paper Road CPR White (Wairarapa)

This is a relatively unusual—but, in this vintage anyway, harmonious—blend of Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Riesling. Aromas rush from the glass: lime oil, red apple skins, orchard blossoms and more subtle dried herbal notes. The palate is highly textured, chalky yet slippery, with zesty acidity and a saline finish. A few more years in bottle should offer it a more honeyed complexity. Drink now through 2027. Christina Pickard
