This antidote to the Sideways treatment of Merlot makes a strong defense for the grape. Dark-cherry and dark-chocolate aromas are lifted by hints of oak on the nose. Grippy tannins frame the sip, where cedar, dark berry and cherry and lingering spice notes make for a very serious expression. Matt Kettmann
