Pascual Toso 2007 Reserve Las Barrancas Vineyards Malbec (Mendoza)

A liberally wooded Malbec with convincing boysenberry, clove and mocha aromas. This is more narrow, tannic and tight than Toso's always admirable varietal Malbec (89-point Best Buy in 2007). It isn't 100% plump and easy, but it offers interesting fruit notes and complexity. As a whole, expect tightness along with spice and herb notes. Drink now through 2009. Michael Schachner
