Paxton 2018 AAA Made With Organic Grapes Red (McLaren Vale)

Where the previous vintage of this classic Aussie red blend showed a lighter side, this vintage doesn't achieve it as successfully. The fruit feels a touch cooked and jammy, back by subtle savory spices and peppery oak notes. Despite a lack of freshness, there is something appealing about it. In the mouth, the fruit sits on the tongue somewhat flatly and tannins are on the astringent side. This lacks some harmony and also some site and fruit expression. Christina Pickard
