Peñalolen 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon (Maipo Valley)

Starts raw and rugged, with overt sawdust aromas, but settles down to show spicy red fruit, licorice, leather and earth. A bit oaky, with coconut flavors along with molasses, chocolate and baked plum. Finishes on the sweet, syrupy side of the fence, but good in a meaty, modern, woody way. Michael Schachner
