Penfolds 2007 Koonunga Hill Cabernet Sauvignon (South Australia)

Best Buy

This wine's tobacco and cassis notes are textbook Cabernet, although it stands out for its velvety tannins and rich mouthfeel. The fruit is dark, verging on date-like or chocolaty, yet the wine retains a sense of structure throughout the long, textured finish. Fine to drink now, but it should last a few years if you decide to wait. Joe Czerwinski
