Penfolds 2017 Bin 389 Cabernet-Shiraz (South Australia)

This wine is a classic Aussie blend of Cabernet and Shiraz. Flashy, oaky, rich and built for the long haul, it leads with prominent cola-like barrel influence, followed closely by blackberries, violets, dried savory herbs and a baseline of fire roasted vegetables. The palate is ripe and powerful but balanced. The oak again a star player, but fairly well integrated with the plush fruit and structured, herb-flecked tannins. Don't touch this any time soon. Drink 2022–2034. Christina Pickard
