Piedrasassi 2017 Syrah (Santa Barbara County)

Editors' Choice

Sashi Moorman is one of the New World's cool-climate Syrah kings, and this county cuvée shows what he's up to for less money. Aromas of rotting rose petals, dry-aged lamb flesh, green peppercorns, wood ash and muffaletta drop into a palate that's bright, savory and earthy all at once. Expect boysenberry, violet and green olive on the sip. Matt Kettmann
