Pine Ridge 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon (Howell Mountain)

Blackberries and some funk in the nose: earth, leather, even a whiff of banana. Dark chocolate and an interesting citrus element add character to the standard berry fruit in the mouth. It's youthful juice, needing time to flesh itself out; now there's a lot of rambunctious black oak, which makes the wine seem a bit one-dimensional.
