Piocho 2012 Red (Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara)

Black cherry, grape, Jolly Rancher candy and crushed black rocks show on the relatively reserved nose of this blend of 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Cabernet Franc, 27% Merlot, 4% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot. It's dry and a bit sour on the palate, with black currant, elderberry, bay leaf and dried herbs. Matt Kettmann
